'Diary'
(Hong Kong Version) R3
After
directing the critically acclaimed Re-Cycle with his brother
earlier this year, Oxide Pang goes solo this time to present
a tense psychological thriller that will leave you guessing
to the very end. In Diary, Pang sets aside the supernatural
to focus on the frightening delusions of the mind.
Like
all of the Pang Brothers' previous films, Diary is beautiful
to look at, with the aesthetically aged set design, impressive
CG work, and decaying earth tones contributing greatly to
the film's creepy atmosphere. Pang makes the best of his young
cast, and Charlene Choi carries the film with an effectively
unsettling performance alongside Shawn Yue (Infernal Affairs
II) and Isabella Leong (Isabella). Full of cerebral twists
and turns, Diary pulls viewers into a young woman's world
of lonely paranoia, where reality and illusion are disturbingly
blurred and love can lead to ominous consequences.

Fatal
Contact (DTS Version) (Hong Kong Version) R0
Wu
Jing returns with more vigorous action in Fatal Contact after
his stunning performance in SPL. The film also stars Ronald
Cheng, whose comedian talent helps spice up this hard-boiled
action movie directed by Dennis Law. After two youth films
The Unusual Youth and Love @ First Note, Law shifts to the
action genre for his third feature-length movie. Fatal Contact
takes its viewers into the underground world of illegal boxing,
a violent and merciless arena where one has to fight in order
to simply survive.
Wu Jing excels in his role as the martial arts champion Kong
who participates in underground boxing under his friend Siu
Tin's (Miki Yeung of Cookies) encouragement. There he meets
Captain (Ronald Cheng), an apparently good-for-nothing gangster
who has actually concealed his real capabilities. While Kong
repeatedly wins the matches in these illegal tournaments,
a triad leader who runs another boxing circuit gets annoyed
and finds a martial arts master to beat Kong. A life-and-death
boxing game is about to begin...

'Dog
Bite Dog' (DTS 2-Disc Version) (Hong Kong Version) R3
'Dog
Bite Dog' shocks its audience with a brutality rarely seen
in Hong Kong cinema. The exorbitant violence, a necessary
evil for survival in Dog Bite Dog, ensures the film a cult
following. Acclaimed director Soi Cheang (Home Sweet Home)
departs from frightening thrillers for this stunning piece.
Edison Chen (Infernal Affairs II) and Sam Lee reunite after
Gen-Y Cops, delivering breakthrough performances as a merciless
assassin and a mentally unstable cop, respectively. The normal
struggle between a cop and an assassin takes place in a surprisingly
nihilistic world, creating enormous cinematic tension and
a relentlessly pessimistic mood. Visually and thematically
unique among Hong Kong films, Dog Bite Dog is a must-see for
those interested in alternative cinema.
